Ambition, Body, Soul & Mvmnt

Ambition, Body, Soul & MVMNT is the second installment from a 2017 body of Work created by ‘Edem K. Garro’ titled ’African, Body, Soul & MVMNT. This body of work takes us on a journey through, allowing us to discover the human connections we share between each other, our environments and the world. This production will feature traditional and contemporary African drumming, dancing and songs sung deep from the depths of the soul. Join us for a wonderful evening of singing, a journey through sound, and MVMNT.

In 2017, the first installment was awarded a grant through Amplify Arts that allowed the production to travel from KANEKO to Boys & Girls club of the midlands, Girls Inc., Hi-Fi House and The Union for Contemporary Art. ABSM was an attempt to bridge the fine art performance world with accessibility. Through changing the narrative of where and who could experience art.  

Ambition, Body, Soul & MVMNT pays homage to ‘Gabriel Kotey’; Edem’s Uncle who passed away from Stage 4 cancer earlier in 2023. Gabriel had been battling cancer for years, however the effects massively took their toll in 2022. Gabriel’s life was a testament to what pure ambition embodied could look like. Everything that Gabriel could imagine, he would achieve. Through his love for God, his children and his family, he became the most supportive, friend, brother and father. Before he was diagnosed, Gabriel had many ideas and dreams full of ambition he wanted to bring to life. Speaking to the brevity of life, and finding the desire to persevere despite the circumstances of the world, ambition to live, ambition to live with vigor, is the new installment of hope in the African, Body, Soul & MVMNT series. Gabriel was laid to rest in his beloved country Ghana. This production, is to honor the ambition he had in life, so that we may honor our own.
