About

A historic theatre. A community gathering place.

A nonprofit arts and community venue in the heart of Omaha's Benson Creative District — bringing people together through performances, education, and shared experiences.

Originally opened in 1923 and restored through a community-led effort, the theatre reopened in 2022 as a vibrant gathering space.

Today it welcomes audiences, artists, educators, nonprofits, businesses, and community members for concerts, comedy, theatre, film, workshops, lectures, celebrations, and special events. We're more than a traditional community theatre. We are a theatre for the community.

Kind Air at the Benson Theatre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 90-0551525) dedicated to keeping our doors open and ensuring access for everyone.

The Neighborhood

In the middle of the Benson Creative District.

Maple Street is where Benson gathers. Independent restaurants, bars, galleries, and music venues sit shoulder to shoulder along a few walkable blocks, and the theatre has stood at 6054 Maple through nearly all of it.

A hundred years on this block

The building opened in 1923 as the Benalto Theater and spent three decades as a neighborhood movie house under Epstein Theaters. Retail took the room over in 1953. The nonprofit bought it back in 2014, and the marquee is lit again.

Programmed for the neighborhood

Alongside everything we book for the wider metro, we aim programming at the surrounding Benson neighborhood and the adjacent North Omaha community, so arts and education are something people can walk to.

A full house fills the street

Every night we sell tickets, people come to Benson from across the Omaha metro for dinner beforehand and a drink after. Keeping this room busy is part of keeping the district busy.

Planning a visit? Where to park and getting into the building each have their own page.
