September of 2011, the God-mother of Omaha’s Spoken Word scene, Felicia Webster Casher and her good friend, fellow Spoken Word artist and arts coordinator and advocate, Michelle Troxclair, began the longest consistently-running open mic in Omaha. The House of Loom was where it all began with the support of owners Brent Crampton and Jay Kline. The mic welcomed those from all walks of life with the intention of being that safe space to be heard. The open mic is essential in providing new artists an opportunity to present their work and veterans to present new material. Poets, storytellers, rappers, spoken word artists, musicians and more graced the stage. It all ended in September of 2017 as the ladies wanted to pursue other projects. This July 27th, the ladies are coming together to present The Verbal Gumbo Reunion. Tickets can be purchased at bensontheatre.org along with an early sign up.
