Jon Dee Graham & The Fighting Cocks July 10

 In B Side, Music

Benson Theatre is pleased to present one of a handful of rare performances outside of Austin by Jon Dee Graham & The Fighting Cocks Tuesday, July 10.

The show begins at 6:00pm at The B Side of Benson Theatre, 6058 Maple Street. The doors open at 5:30pm, and tickets are $15.

Graham and his acclaimed band have held down a Wednesday night residency for more than 17 years at Austin’s famed Continental Club, sharing the night with James McMurtry.

John Dee is one of the most beloved singer-songwriter-guitarists on the Austin scene. He is the only musician to be inducted three times into the Austin Music Hall of Fame.

Graham was also a member of The True Believers with Alejandro Escovedo. His songs have been covered by artists Patty Smythe, Patty Griffin & James McMurtry, and he has performed with John Doe (X, The Knitters), Exene Cervenka (X), Michelle Shocked, Alejandro Escovedo, Kelly Willis and The Gourds. He has also performed as a sideman on a number of notable artists’ releases.

Graham has released more than seven studio albums and a live compilation that included a couple of tracks recorded at Lincoln’s Zoo Bar (featuring Lincoln’s own Josh Hoyer). Graham’s critically acclaimed solo release, Escape From Monster Island, is such an iconic roots record that it was reissued in 2017 on the 20-year anniversary of its 1997 release.

Jon Dee Graham is the silver lining, reluctant as he may be about it. He’s humor in heartbreak and tears at a wedding. He’ll break the fifth (and sixth) wall and pull you with him to a world of darkest nights and brightest days. In two words: sucker punch.
– John Fullbright
