Don’t Miss Darius Jones at B Side Oct. 12
BENSON – The man who’s been called “the most visceral and distinctive alto saxophonist of this era” by Giovanni Russonello of The New York Times is bringing his talents to Benson Friday, Oct. 12.
Benson Theatre will host host Darius Jones at The B Side of Benson Theatre, 6058 Maple Street, for a masterclass and two performances.
The masterclass is set for 5:00 to 6:00pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Participation is limited to to 50 attendees. High school and college music students as well as any young people with an interest in jazz are encouraged to attend.
Later that evening, Jones will perform two shows at B Side, the first at 7:00pm and the second at 10:00pm. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased online at:
In 2003, Jones graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies and earned a master’s degree in jazz performance/composition from New York University in 2008. Early on, he established himself as a powerful voice in the jazz community.
Jones was one of JazzTimes’ Debut Artists of the Year in 2009 and was featured in the Wall Street Journal in 2011. More recently, The New York Times named Jones among the Best Live Jazz Performances of 2017 for his Vision Festival performance with Farmers by Nature.
